Chicken Apple Sausage
Making your own chicken apple sausage is a simple way to take control of ingredients while adding some serious flavor to your meals. It’s a healthier, more affordable option than many store-bought versions—and this sweet and savory blend is perfect for meal prep!
I like to keep it easy and cook mine ground-style for quick breakfasts, but you can also shape them into patties and store in an airtight container for a ready-to-go protein option any time of the week.
Ingredients:
1 Lb Ground Chicken
Note: Using a higher fat percentage ground chicken, with some dark meat, yields a more moist result. However, if you are looking for a more lean option, you can always grind your own meat from chicken breasts using a Kitchen Aid metal grinder attachment
½ cup Chopped Sweet Onion
1 medium Gala Apple, peeled and minced
1 Tsp Ground Sage
½ Tsp Fennel Seeds
½ Tsp Paprika
1 Tsp Himalayan Pink Salt
Instructions:
Add ground sage, fennel seeds, paprika and salt to ground chicken and mix well.
Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
Add onion and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Add minced apple and cook for another 2 minutes.
Add ground chicken mixture.
Once the chicken has browned, remove from heat.
Let cool and measure out for meal prep, or store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Instructions for Sausage Patties:
Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
Add onion and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Add minced apple and cook for another 2 minutes.
Remove from heat and let cool for about 5 minutes.
To a bowl, combine ground chicken, ground sage, fennel seeds, paprika, salt, as well as onion and apple mix. Mix well.
Form mixture into balls and place in preheated skillet.
Flatten each ball into a patty.
Cook approximately 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned.
